The great horned owl is the largest owl in North America. These owls are about 18 to 25 inches long. It's wingspan is about 52 to 55 inches. Its weight is about 3 pounds. Their feathers are gray to brown to buff to black. They have a patch of white on their chest. Their eyes are yellow with round black pupils. These birds feed upon small mammals(like rabbits, skunks, woodchucks, mice, rats, and squirrels), birds such as ducks, quail, and geese. They also eat fish. Their young are called owlets.
